The Paso Robles Democratic Club ("PRDC," "we," "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to our website (pasoroblesdemocrats.org), our email and text communications, and any information collected by PRDC volunteers at events or while canvassing.
By using our website or giving us your contact information, you agree to this policy. If you don't agree, please don't use our website or share your information with us — you can always contact us to have your information removed.
We may update this policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted here, and the "Last updated" date above will change.
1. Information We Collect
Information you may give us directly, such as when you register as a member, sign up for updates, volunteer, make a donation or pay dues, or fill out a form:
- Name, email address, mailing address, phone number
- Payment information (processed securely by our payment provider — we don't store your card details)
- Any responses you give us in surveys, forms, or text/email replies
Information we collect automatically when you visit our website:
- Pages viewed, links clicked, and general browsing activity
- Your IP address and device/browser information
- Cookies and similar tracking technology (see Section 4)
Information from social media if you interact with us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or BlueSky — such as your username and public posts.
Information from other sources, such as publicly available voter or demographic information, which we may combine with what you've given us directly to keep our records accurate.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Send you updates about Club events, meetings, and membership status
- Process your membership dues or donations
- Respond to your questions or requests
- Improve our website and outreach
- Detect and prevent fraud or misuse of our website
If you complete a survey, we may use your answers to better tailor future communications, and may share responses with Club leadership to help guide our work.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing purposes without your consent.
We do share information in these limited situations:
- Service providers: Companies that help us run our website, send emails, or process payments (for example, our hosting provider and payment processor) may see your information only as needed to do their job, and are required to keep it confidential.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe it's necessary to protect our rights, our members, or the public.
- Political contribution disclosure: Membership dues and donations may be subject to California campaign finance disclosure laws — see Section 8 below. This is different from, and in addition to, the situations above.
4. Cookies and Website Tracking
Like most websites, we use cookies and similar tools to understand how visitors use our site and to improve it. You can turn off cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work as well if you do.
We use Tinybird for website analytics and Mailgun for email delivery. Neither service is given information that identifies you personally through these tools.
We don't currently respond differently to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
5. Your Choices
- Email: Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link. You can also reply STOP to any email.
- Text messages: Reply STOP to any text to stop receiving texts, or HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies. See Section 9 for full text messaging terms.
- Cookies: Adjust your browser settings to block or delete cookies at any time.
Opting out of communications does not cancel your membership or dues, and we may still need to keep some records to meet legal requirements (see Section 8).
6. How We Protect Your Information
We use reasonable technical and administrative safeguards — including encryption and limited access — to protect your information. That said, no method of transmitting or storing data online is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Please be cautious about sending sensitive information by email, since email is not always secure.
7. Other Important Notes
- Children: Our website is intended for people age 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we've done so, we'll delete it.
- Users outside the U.S.: Our website is based in the United States, and any information you provide will be handled under U.S. law.
- California privacy rights: We do not share your personal information with third parties for their own direct marketing without your consent.
8. Political Contribution Recordkeeping (California FPPC Requirements)
The Paso Robles Democratic Club is a political organization, and membership dues and donations are treated as political contributions under California's Political Reform Act. State law — not just our own preference — requires us to keep certain records about contributors, and in some cases to make that information public. This section explains what that means for you.
What we're required to record:
| Contribution amount (per year) | What we must keep on file |
|---|---|
| Under $25 | Date and amount |
| $25 – $99.99 | Name, address, date, and amount |
| $100 or more | Name, address, occupation, and employer, in addition to date and amount |
If we don't have your name, address, occupation, and employer on file for a contribution of $100 or more, California law requires us to return that contribution within 60 days.
What becomes public:
Contributions totaling $100 or more from you in a calendar year must be itemized — meaning your name, city, occupation, employer, and the contribution amount and date — on campaign finance disclosure reports that we file with the California Secretary of State and/or local elections officials. These filings are public record and can be viewed by anyone.
Contributions under $100 are reported in total, without identifying individual contributors.
Why this is different from the rest of this policy: Everything else in this policy describes how we choose to handle your information. This section describes a legal requirement that overrides those general practices for contribution-related information — we're required to collect, retain, and in some cases publicly disclose it, regardless of your communication preferences.
If you have questions about this requirement, you can contact the California Fair Political Practices Commission at advice@fppc.ca.gov or (866) 275-3772, or contact us using the information in Section 10.
9. Text Messaging Terms
"Text message" includes SMS, MMS, and RCS messages.
- There's no charge from PRDC to receive texts, but your carrier's message and data rates may apply.
- We may collect your phone number, carrier name, and message content/timing to operate this service.
- Message delivery isn't guaranteed — carriers aren't liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
- Reply HELP to any text for assistance, or contact us at the email below.
- Reply STOP to any text at any time to stop receiving messages.
